Dr. Swapna Gopinath
Professor
Dr Swapna is a scholar specializing in Film Studies, Cultural Theories, and Media Theories, focusing on the Cultural and Creative Industries. Her teaching explores the complexities of these fields, encouraging critical thinking and interdisciplinary connections. Her research examines the intersections of Film, Media, Gender, and Decolonial Studies, particularly from the perspective of the Global South. Dr Gopinath aims to shed light on underrepresented voices and narratives, contributing to a broader understanding of cultural dynamics in a rapidly evolving media landscape.
She is a recipient of the Fulbright-Nehru Academic and Professional Excellence award and was a visiting fellow at the University of Rochester, NY. She completed her postdoctoral research as a UGC Research awardee from Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS). She co-edited the book on Hindi cinema titled, “Historicizing Myths in Contemporary India”, which was published by Routledge in 2023. She was further honoured with the “Researcher Award” by SIU.
