Dr. Abhishek Roy

Assistant Professor

Dr. Abhishek Roy is an Assistant Professor at the Symbiosis Institute of Media and Communication (SIMC), Pune. He teaches Strategic Communication, Branded content, Digital journalism, and Online & Social Media Tools for Journalism. His research areas include Film and Visual Studies, Social Media Research, and Discourse Studies, focusing on the critical evaluation of visual narratives within movies, the socio-cultural impacts of social media engagements, and the complex mechanisms of discourse development. By merging these areas, Dr. Roy aims to enrich the understanding of current media phenomena and their extensive societal implications.

Dr. Roy was awarded the first prize in the 3rd Chidananda Dasgupta Memorial Competition (held by FIPRESCI-India) for 'Best Film Criticism’ in November 2022. He is also honoured with the prestigious FIAT/IFTA Media Studies Grant of 2024, along with Ms. Dhara Shah, for their research project titled "Hide and Seek: Locating the Agency and Power of Archivists in the Neoliberalist Structures of Audio-Visual Archives in India."
