FAQs
Why MBA (CM)?
MBA (CM) means MBA in Communication Management. We provide such specialized degree, as we are a premier pure-play Media & Communication School nurturing and developing future leaders in managing creatively oriented agencies and media house related businesses.
What makes our MBA (CM) curriculum unique?
Our MBA programme has been created taking into account the requirements of the Media & Communication industry, in terms of knowledge, skills and attitude, at the entry level as well as during the initial progression (within agencies or a media houses).
We started off with 3 specializations, after completely revamping the curriculum in academic year 2011-12; covering specializations such as:
- Brand Communication
- Public Relations
- Media Management
- In the year 2016, we announced the fourth specialization Marketing and Media Analytics.
Seven specialization subjects are covered over 3 Terms accounting for 18 credits out of a total of 100 credit in the programme. (Please refer answer to question 7 below for more clarification). In order to provide a holistic understanding of the roles & the business context, each term additionally has courses in 5 specific areas. These include:
- Business Perspective
- Marketing & Branding
- Creativity & Innovation
- Research
- Social Sciences & Communications.
- Digital
How is our course different from a general MBA?
- We bridge the traditional and the contemporary; with our feet on the ground and fingers on the pulse. That is why our curriculum has both research and digital tracks built into it.
- We have carefully built an ecosystem that allows for contrasting opinions, methods and processes to co-exist and deliver. Co-locating instruction, exploration, process and instinct, we believe, which is a good mix for academic progress.
- We are also the largest Post graduate institute in the Media and communication space.
- Each one of our specialization areas is either ranked 1 or 2 as per published rankings.
Are we providing courses on Digital Marketing in Marketing & Media Analytics?
Digital is a crucial part of everyday life today & is reflected in our curriculum & approach. There are specific digital courses (Viz; Digital Eco System – Semester 2, Digital Communication Solutions - Semester 3 & Business Models for Digital future - Semester 4). Additionally every course in our institute is required to have a minimum of 20% coverage for relevant portion of digital media & it's impact, for e.g. in a course named Indian Kaleidoscope covering Indian society & culture, the faculty is expected to cover atleast 20% of the course looking at the impact of the digital era shaping Indian society currently. Digital courses are thus offered in every specialization including Marketing & Media Analytics.
Why are we starting Marketing & Media Analytics specialization?
There are increasing opportunities in the broad areas of Marketing Research, Consumer & Brand Insights & Analytics which have emerged as major components of Marketing/Brand Management. Hence, we felt that it is important to bring in a new specialization to address the distinct requirements of the intersection of Marketing Research, Insight & Analytics is today's digital world. Typically Marketing also covers media spends as a major expense component & hence the course is named Marketing & Media Analytics.
Difference between Marketing & Media Analytics and Media Management?
While Marketing & Media Analytics has research insighting & Analytics based decision support focus, Media Management on the other hand focuses primarily on:
- Media Planning: Traditional & Digital
- Media Research & Analysis
- Media Laws & Regulations
- Economics of Media Business
- Media Budgeting & Audit
- Media Investment Management: Media Buying
- Media Sales & Brand Management
- Managing Media Businesses
- Each of the courses has 20% to 30% digital content.
What are our course structure & curriculum of Marketing & Media Analytics specialization?
The Seven specialization specific courses for Marketing & Media Analytics during each term are from Semester II
Semester II
- Business Analytics
Semester IV
- Managing Research & Analytics businesses
- Introduction to Specialized Research & Analytics
Semester III
- Consumer Brand & Media Insights
- Marketing Analytics
- Social Media Analytics
- Specialized Qualitative Research & Tools
Apart from there the students will have to take all common courses mentioned in the programme structure.
What kind of future is there by doing a Marketing & Media Analytics?
- Most of the jobs for Marketing & Media Analytics will come from Marketing Research Agencies (Quantitative & Qualitative research including Insighting). Consumer insight work has been conducted by consultancies as well as brand owners independent marketing consultants. Analytics jobs, on the other hand will be required by consultants, Analytics' companies & large firms with their in-house analytics teams.
- Over the past, we have observed that Research & Analytics agencies are good pay masters with ROI of less than 2 years at current fees.
Why would you find the specialization of some of the senior batches different from what we offer now?
Our MBA (CM) programme was created taking into account the requirements of the Media & Communication industry, in terms of knowledge, skills & attitude, at the entry level as well as during the initial progression (within agencies or a media house).
We started off with 3 specializations, after completely revamping the curriculum in academic year 2011-13; covering specializations such as Advertising / Brand Communication,
- Public Relations and
- Media Management
- From batch 2016-18 we are offering new specialization 'Marketing & Media Analytics.'
