SIMC sees record placements for Batch of 2007

The Symbiosis Institute of Mass Communication (SIMC), Pune, saw record campus placements this year for all four specializations - Journalism, Advertising, Public Relations and Audio Visual Production.
SIMC Director Prof. Ujjwal Kumar Chowdhury, said, “I attribute it to the boom in the market. Also, for the first time, we bench-marked the minimum CTC (cost to company) for our students and we still had almost 100% campus recruitments.

Bhavin Sheth, Placement Co-ordinator for Advertising, said, “Our placements strategy was a well thought out process. The brochures were prepared in. record time which helped companies with immediate requirements to get in touch with us. Overall, this year, we saw a 30% gain in salaries over the previous year. This year the average salary was Rs 3.3 lakhs p.a. This year we also got an international placement in Dubai. The advertising specialisation was also the first to achieve 100% placement." Among companies which came to the campus were Group M, BBDO, Quantum, IMRB and others.

The Public Relations specialization achieved the highest ever package in the history of the Institute with Maneck Kotwal accepting Rs six lakhs pa from Big FM. "The course at SIMC has given me knowledge and skill sets that will help me throughout my life. People would ask me why I had gone back to studying after working for three years. I don’t think I would have got this package had I continued working," said Maneck.

Sujata Ayer, Placement Co-ordinator for Public Relations, informed, “The average package was 3.4 lakhs p.a. We had companies like GE, L&T, Adlabs, Tech Mahindra, ABB, L'Oreal, and NDTV – all coming in for the first time."

Nimisha Srivastava, Placement Co-ordinator for Journalism, said, “I think that we have broken new grounds in journalism placements this year. The scope and quality of placements has been bettered in all respects.”

Megha Singh, Placement Coordinator for Audio-Visual Production, agrees, “We have had a very good experience this year. A number of new companies have come in and we saw a good mix of production houses."

Among the companies which came to SIMC for recruitments were industry bigwigs like CNBC, CNN-IBN, DNA, The Times Group, Balaji Telefilms, Contiloe films, Picture This, MTV, Encompass, and several others.
