The
journey beckons...
The end of the twentieth century will
be marked in history as an Era of Convergence in the world of media and
communication. The advent of ICE Age changed people's understanding of
“BUSINESS” forever. People recognized, understood and accepted Information,
Communication and Entertainment as business that could lead the world. Internet
or the Online Media has turned the world into a “Global Village”.
The traditional Media and
Communication experienced a Revolutionary Transformation in trend. Over the
years Media have moved from Creativity to “BUSINESS OF CREATIVITY”.
Thus, the “BUSINESS OF CREATIVITY”
requires professionally trained media graduates who are not only creative but
are also well-versed with the importance and understanding of Business
Development, Promotion and Management Functions like Finance, Marketing and
Human Resource Management in Media Industry to keep up with the rapidly
changing media business scenario. Professionalizing attitude of creative
professionals may provide the competitive edge, and that is what SIMC aims at.
Today, the truly progressive media training is diverse in content and approach.
There is, first, the diversity of media vehicles and areas of communication to
be aware of. From print journalism, to radio and television news and current
affairs programs, fiction-based productions for television and cinema,
animation and graphics, advertising on the print, web and television, outdoors
and kiosks, public relations, events, and corporate communication. One really
needs to know all and their strengths, before specializing in one area
according to one's aptitude.Second, media education today is more
performance-driven and interactive. Interactivity has led to large-scale
dependence on consumers' and even advertisers' changing tastes and needs.Third,
media education must also recognize the immense importance of speed and
deadlines in production of media to the extent that experts of the field now
say that deadlines are dead in the new age converging media.
Recognizing these
factors, SIMC curriculum focuses on four different learning processes: learning
from theory, learning from the internet, and learning from cases,
fellow-trainees' and personal experiences - we call it the Experiential Brick
and Portal method. Our objective is to be an active catalyst in the evolution
of complete communication professionals who fulfill the needs of the industry
in terms of their holistic or integrated knowledge and multi-skilling, their
specialized skills in one area of media, their technological skills and
inter-personal skills, and their professional culture or code of conduct.
We, at SIMC, stand committed to the needs of the
communication industry to get suitably trained professionals, and the dreams of
the aspirants to become the icons of the Indian media of tomorrow.
