Admission Update -2 dated February 25,2014: Update on SIMC (PG) Pune MMC Admission Results: an overview for the applicants (and their parents):

At the outset we would like to thank all the applicants who applied to and made it through various stages of admissions to our MMC programme, 2014-16 batch.

1. The number of seats for admission to AY 2014-16 is 60 for MMC (for both the specialization areas, 30 each for Journalism and Audio Visual Production).

2. 2011 onwards the admission process has become rigorous and competitive. Our current admission process has the following stages.

a. Online Entrance Test for MMC Programme

b. Candidates shortlisted for the WT-PI process based on their performance in the MMC Online Entrance Test Score and Academic Profile Score(APS).

     i. SIMC MMC Online Entrance Test Score (180) : Score scale down to 80
     ii. Academic Profile Score (20)
iii. Total Aggregate score calculated as sum of i. and ii.

c. The shortlisted candidates were invited to the campus to further take part in a personal interaction, written test, and a non graded, non gating personality test. During the Personal interaction process the panel viewed and evaluated the Creative Portfolio of aspirants showcasing their prior work.

A large number of candidates were invited for this round to evaluate them for specific suitability to our programmes. This was done with a view to ensure a greater diversity and also offer a chance to aspirants to demonstrate their creative potential and /or genuine interest in the Media and Communication industries. In our experience, only a detailed PI has the ability to evaluate these desired characteristics that Entrance Test results may not necessarily predict.

The final scores out of 100 were arrived after totaling the following components for each aspirant.

Component Weightage
Personal Interaction (PI) 25 Marks
Creative Portfolio 05 Marks
Written Test (WT) 20 Marks
Aggregate Score 50 Marks

3. The success rates this year is 22% for MMC candidates, making it to the Merit List.

4. We expect that the selected students will learn from an industry validated award winning curriculum, have a better ability to apply these learning's during their internships and industry projects. All of these factors enumerated above will lead to a stronger image for SIMC as an Academic institution.

5. Admissions Round 2 : We may opt for second round of admissions for MMC programme after April 15,2014 in case we do not get suitable candidates in sufficient numbers from this round of admissions.

We understand that there are some clarifications required additionally, that will help interpret individual results correctly. For more details on your admission results and related facts, please check the appropriate category below, for additional information.

Selected –Final Merit List (Pl check the details below)

Wait List (Pl check the details below)

We appreciate all those who were interested in joining SIMC however due to intense competition we were unable to proceed further, during this admission cycle.

We wish to assert that not making it to SIMC final merit list this year does not reflect on one's capability or potential and we are certain that you will have many opportunities for associating with SIMC Pune in the future.

We wish you all the very best in your future endeavors.

Please feel free to contact us at admissions@simc.edu for queries or clarifications.

Best regards

Admission Update About Third Merit List

Dear Students,

Greetings from SIMC,Pune!

We are aware that many of you are awaiting the declaration of Third Merit List. However, currently we have received requests from some of the candidates from second merit list for extension of payment of fees as due to financial year ending they are facing problem in getting their educational loan processed in this financial year. The admission committee has sanctioned their request and finalized the extended date for payment of fees for them as April 5, 2013.

Due to this, we are unable to release any admission offers for MBA(CM) and MMC Programme on March 22, 2013 as mentioned in the admission update dated March 6,2013.

We would like to thank all the candidates still awaiting an offer from SIMC Pune and we do hope that at least some more of you will be able to join, as seats open up on April 6, 2013 and if any, thereafter.

Regards,

Prof Chandan Chatterjee, Director, SIMC (PG), Pune

Admission Update & important information for students on Second Merit List

The last date of payment for First Merit list was 6h March 2013. We attempted to contact with almost every candidate on the 1st Merit List before confirming or withdrawing the offer to join SIMC, Pune.

As per our earlier website admission notice, we announced the Second Merit List on 7th March 2013.  The new cut off scores (total) in MBA (Communication Management) and that for MMC are as follows:

We will send offer letters to candidates on First Waitlist (upgraded hereafter to Selected – Second Merit List) on the basis of seats that have opened up. Vacant Seats under reserved category, where there are no more applicants, have now been included in the Open / general category seats, leading to some more seats in this category.

The package contains the following:

Offer letters on SIU letterhead for MBA and MMC Second Merit List candidates will be  dispatched on 8th March,2013 along with the following annexure.

Annexure 1. Bank Loan Letter on SIMC letterhead

Annexure 2. Mode of Payment of Fees

Second Merit List candidates must pay their fees by March 21, 2013 else their offer for admission will stand cancelled, and the seat will be opened to candidates on the Waiting Lists as per ranking.

We would like to mention that we have disclosed aggregate information instead of complete lists adopting a “need to know” principle, rather than an open information regime. Both have its own merit. However, like most premier schools, we use IT to provide specific information to individual candidates, through our website.  Our Admission Process gets audited by SIU, to ensure its integrity.

We would once again like to thank all the candidates still awaiting an offer from SIMC Pune and we do hope that at least some more of you will be able to join, as seats open up on March 22nd and then on April 5th, 2013 and if any, thereafter.

In our experience, there will be cancellations right through to June 2013, as candidates get offers from institutes of higher preference. So, for those who have not made it to the Second Merit List, I suggest that you hang on to your hopes till March 22,2013.

Admission Update on GE-PI Results : MBA(CM)

Update on SIMC (PG) Pune Admissions: an overview for the applicants (and their parents):
At the outset we would like to thank all the applicants who applied to and made it through various stages of admissions to our MBA programme, 2013-15 batch.

From the year 2011, Admission at SIMC Pune has become more intense and competitive. This is due to a multitude of reasons:

  • The admission process itself underwent a sea change. The students called in for GE / PI went through
    • Group Exercise and Written test.
    • Personal Interaction(PI) with a panel comprising of an internal faculty member and an external industry professional
    • A non-graded, non-gating personality profiling test, (based on validated scales conducted and interpreted by an experienced and reputed expert team and used as a probing input during PI, introduced (at SIMC) since 2011.
    • From this year an additional component of Institute Defined Attributes was added. The attributes considered are educational qualifications, work experience and internships.
    • The total score of 100 for final evaluation comprises of 40 points derived from the SNAP score (180 Marks scaled down to 40 marks), 20 points derived from GE and Written test, 20 from PI and the balance 20 points from institute defined attributes.
  • The number of seats for admission to AY 2013-15 (as stated in the prospectus) are 120 for MBA(CM) (all specializations put together)
  • Simultaneously we invited a large number of candidates to evaluate them for specific suitability to our programmes. We wanted a greater diversity and also offer a chance to those who could demonstrate their creative potential and /or genuine interest in the Media and Communication industries. In our experience, only a detailed PI has the ability to evaluate these desired characteristics over other measures/scores.
  • We also invited students from the MBA GE/PI wait list (to offer a chance to deserving candidates with lower SNAP scores) during specially held GE / PI sessions on 10th February, 2013 for MBA(CM) at our campus at Lavale Pune. Quite a few from these groups also made it to the final Merit lists, validating our hypotheses.
  • Our MBA(CM) GE / PI process started on 7th February and concluded on 10th February 2013, with the last group of MBA applicants. The duly approved results will be uploaded on our website as per schedule in the SIMC prospectus.
  • The success rates this year is 11% for MBA(CM) candidates, making it to the Merit List.
  • We expect that the selected students will learn more from an industry validated curriculum, have a better ability to apply these learnings during their internships and industry projects. All of these factors enumerated above will lead to a stronger image for SIMC as an Academic institution as also for its faculty and students.

We understand that there are some clarifications required additionally, that will help interpret individual results correctly. For more details on your admission results and related facts, pl click on the appropriate category below, for an overall picture per status type:

Admission Update : Institute Defined Attributes (Work Experience and Internship)

Greetings!

As you are well aware (Admission FAQs, FB postings, and director’s presentation) SIMC is considering education, internships and work experience as attributes towards the final score.

However as we are computing the final score, we have noticed that currently there is zero score on the experience and internship attributes for you. This could be due to

  • No internship or experience demonstrated by you at the PI.
  • Or Missed by the concerned panelist while capturing your details.

We have identified these cases. To double check and ensure fairness we have sent mails to specific aspirants. Those of you who have received this mail please send the details (wherever applicable) in the following format.

    1. Candidates who have appeared for General SNAP and have opted for SIMC MMC as one of the preference
    2. Candidates who have appeared for the SIMC MMC SNAP with SIMC MMC as their only choice of admission.
